Abstract: Kinetics of the oxidation of diethylamine with 1-chlorobenzotriazole, 1-chloro-4-nitrobenzotriazole,and 1,4,5,6,7-pentachlorobenzotriazole in aqueous acetic acid, in the presence of perchloric acid, hasbeen studied. The oxidation is a second-order reaction uncatalyzed by acid. The rates and the activationparameters of the oxidation by the three chloramines do not differ significantly and thechloramines oxidize by a common mechanism.
