Benzothiazole compounds. 28. Synthesis of 2-styrylbenzothiazolium salts substituted at position-3 and their biological-activity

Abstract: 2-Styrylbenzothiazolium salts substituted at the position 3 were prepared by alkylation of 2-styrylbenzothiazole with methyl iodide, dimethyl sulfate, allyl bromide, propargyl bromide, benzyl bromide, bromoacetic acid, and bromoacetic acid esters. Their structure was proved by UV, IR, and ^IH NMR spectra. The compounds showed the activity as plant-growth regulators, and affected both the cells division of Euglena gracilis and the synthesis of chlorophyll. The antibacterial and antifungal activities were also found.
