Catalytic effect of Cu(TAAB)2+ on ascorbic acid dioxygen oxidation

Abstract: Polarographic and spectrophotometric study has been made of the kinetics of ascorbic acid dioxygen oxidation catalyzed by copper complex with a tetrabenzo(b,f,j,n)(l,5,9,13)tetraazacyclohexadecine (TAAB) macrocyclic ligand. A chain radical mechanism has been suggested assuming Cu(TAAB)2+ reduction by ascorbic acid to be a rate-determining step and a fast Cu(TAAB)2+ reoxidation process.
