Abstract:  The temperatures of glass transition of solutions of lithium nitrate in the mixed solvent dimethyl sulfoxide—water were determined at different n(DMSO)/n(H20) ratios. It was found that the dependence of the temperature of glass transition on mole fraction of lithium nitrate at constant composition of solvent can be approximated by a linear relationship. Dependence of the temperature of glass transition on composition of the mixed solvent at constant concentration of lithium nitrate was found to be rather complex and it cannot be interpreted on the basis of contemporary theoretical conceptions. Limits of the glass-forming region in the ternary diagram are discussed on the basis of influence of the change in composition of solution on the induction period of nucleation of the corresponding equilibrium phase.
