Abstract: The spectrophotometric detn. of Pd with pyrogallol red is described. Its high sensitivity depends on the presence of micellar system of 1-carbethoxypentadecyltrimethylammonium bromide, which leads to the max. color formation in acid solns. (pH 5.5) in a shorter time interval than in the absence of the surfactant. The ternary Pd-dye-cation-active-surfactant system obeys Beer's law over the range 0.20-3.70 μg  ml-1 Pd(II) with a Sandell sensitivity of 4 × 10-3 μg cm-2 and a molar absorptivity of 2.6 × 104 l mol-1 cm-1 at the max. of the differential curve at 620 nm.
