Abstract: The title hydrazo compd. is not oxidizable by the O of air in 2 N-H2SO4, but is instantaneously oxidized by a soln. of K3Fe(CN)6 to give an azo compd. The rate of oxidn. by O increases with the pH, and in 2 N-NaOH is limited only by the rate of diffusion of O into the soln. In the presence of excess hydrazo compd., 2 mol azo compd. arise from 2 mol the hydrazo compd. and 1 mol O. In the presence of excess O, equimolar amts. of azo compd. and H2O2 are formed. The rate of disproportionation is not a monotonic function of [H+]. The disproportionation rate is not a monotonic function of [H+], but reaches its highest value in neutral medium and is practically negligible in 2 N-H2SO4 or 2 N-NaOH.
