Abstract:  The effect of n-alkyl substituents on the comp lex-forming properties of EDTA are studied. The complex-forming properties of 1,2-diaminopentane- N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic (PEDTA) and l,2-diaminohexane-N,N',N'-N'-tetraacetic (HEDTA) acids are investigated by Polarographie method. The values of the logarithms of the stability constants with lanthanides and other central atoms were determined. According to the results obtained, both the substances may by regarded as strong chelate-forming agents, the stability constants of which are higher than the corresponding values of EDTA. Their stability constants approximate the values of DCTA.
