Abstract: Hydroformylation of carbonyl groups in n- and isobutyraldehydes affords n- and isobutyl formiates, respectively. From the viewpoint of the formation of these esters isobutyraldehyde is more reactive. Formic acid found in the hydroformylation product arises from the hydrolysis of esters by water formed in the course of consecutive reactions of aldehydes.
