Oscillopolarographic reduction of pyridine

R. Kalvoda

Polarographisches Institut, Tschechoslowakische Akademie der Wissenschaften, Praha

Abstract: C5H5N is reduced by extremely neg. potentials. The curves dΕ/dt = f(Ε) showed cathodic and anodic peaks due to redn. products which include dipyridyls, polypiperidyls, N-free aldehydes, e.g., HCOCH:CHCH2CHO, and pyran derivs. 2-Picoline formed an aldehydoketone and 2,6-lutidine a diketone. Peaks produced in neutral solns. resembled those of meconic acid. The effect of pH on the position of peaks and the shape of curves was discussed. 22 references.
