Potentiometric determination of sulfuric and formic acids in nonaqueous solution

Abstract: To det. H₂SO₄ and HCO₂H in the reaction product of pentaerythritol production, mix 4 ml. of the reaction product with 40 ml. of acetone and titrate potentiometrically with 0.1N Me₄NOH in 7:1 C₆H₆-MeOH. Reference and indicator electrodes were satd. calomel and glass, resp. The 1st step on the titration curve corresponds to 1st neutralization of H₂SO₄, and the 2nd step to 2nd neutralization of H₂SO₄ and to neutralization of HCO₂H. The accuracy is <1%.
