Abstract: The cause of low chem. processing quality of beech kraft pulp as compared with spruce pulp was investigated. The effect of the morphology on the reactivity of pulps prepd. from beech-and sprucewood by the sulfite and kraft processes was studied by microscopical examns. of their swelling during dissolution and were compared with their resp. reactivities. The reactivity of pulps is affected more by the delignification process than by the morphology of cellulose fibers. 12 micrographs.
