Graphical method for the determination of the inflection point of symmetric potentiometric titration curve

Abstract: A rapid and exact graphical method for the detn. of the inflection point of symmetric potentiometric titration curves is described. It is based on the comparison of the areas circumscribed by the titration curve and the line crossing it in 3 points. If the line goes through the inflection point these two areas are equal; this was proven mathematically. For comparison of the areas, visual evaluation is sufficient. The results of this method for some neutralization, pptn., and oxidation-reduction reactions compared favorably with the results of the graphical derivation method, the graphical method of concentric circles according to Tubbs (C.A. 49, 2246i), and the calcn. method according to Hahn and Weiler (C.A. 21, 871).
