The effect of ultrasound on the liberation of hydrogen on a mercury electrode

D. Papoušek

Masarykova University, Brno

Abstract: The effect of ultrasound waves on the electrochem. processes generated on Hg electrodes was studied. The principle is based on the fact that the Hg electrode with its shape forms an acoustical wave crest that transfers the ultrasound on the surface of the electrode. The results of expts. indicate a strong effect of ultrasound on the electroreduction of H which can be explained by a desorptive or recombination theory of H overvoltage.
