The hydrolysis and condensation of the esters of orthotitanic acid

Abstract: Expts. on the hydrolysis and condensation of Ti(OR4) (R = Bu, heptyl, cetyl, PhCH2, Ph, and m-MeC6H4) in the mol. ratios H2O-Ti = 0.5:1, 1:1, and 2:1 are described. By comparing the esters it was found that the quantity of H2O not used up in the reaction is dependent on the type of ester, and from the values so derived their resistance to hydrolysis can be judged. In the aliphatic esters the resistance to hydrolysis increases with the length of the chain of the alc. while in the aromatic esters it is considerably greater.
