Kinetics of alkaline hydrolysis of the monomethyl ester of terephthalic acid in mixed aqueous-organic solvents

Abstract: The kinetics of alkaline hydrolysis of the monomethyl ester of terephthalic acid was investigated in aqueous and mixed aqueous-nonaqueous media. The experimental results are appreciated from the view-point of the influence of ionic strength and relative permittivity of the solvent on kinetic parameters. A significant influence of specific interactions of supporting electrolytes and nonaqueous cosolvents on the reaction has been revealed.
