Abstract:

In this article, the use of new nano-magnetic particles (NMPs) that have been applied as sorbents in the detection of higher molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (HWW-PAHs) has been studied. The new Fe2O3 nanocomposite embedded with tannic acid has been used in the extraction of HMW-PAHs, namely dibenzo(a,h)anthracene(DBahAnth), benzo(g,h,i)perylene(BghiPery) and indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene(I123cdPy) from water samples using fluorescence technique. The techniques of extraction used to separate the selected PAHs have been emphasized and the new nanoparticles have been characterized using XRD and SEM, which indicated a large surface area. The limit of detection was found to be varied from 0.02 for DBahAnth to 0.66 ng. L−1 for I123cdPy. The determined RSD at middle concentrations in the calibration varied from 5.3 for I123cdPy to 10.1% BghiPery. Furthermore, the recovery value was from 89.01 I123cdPy to 88.81 DBahAnth in water samples.
