Abstract:

Humic-acid-modified silica was prepared via immobilization of humic acids onto aminopropyl-silica (SiAP-HA). These environmentally friendly materials could be used for the separation of silver ions, Ag(I), and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from an aqueous solution. The extraction of Ag(I) using SiAP-HA was achieved at the optimum pH of 3, while AgNPs remained in the solution. The adsorption behavior of Ag(I) was described by the Langmuir model at 298 K, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 31.3 mg/g. The desorption of Ag(I) was successful using 0.1 M nitric acid solution. After solid-phase separation, both silver species were determined by an inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES) with good accuracy and precision.
