Low frequency alternating current response of PPy–PVA–Fe nanocomposite films

Abstract:

Novel nanocomposite films based on polypyrrole–polyvinyl alcohol–iron nanocomposites (PPy/PVA/Fe) were synthesized by the in situ chemical oxidative polymerization of pyrrole with different concentration of iron nanoparticles extracted from Adathoda leaves. XRD studies confirmed the crystalline nature, while FTIR evidenced the formation of the polymer PPy/PVA/Fe nanocomposite, TGA revealed the thermal stability of the composites; SEM exhibited the porous nature of the composites, and TEM shows the embedment of Fe nanoparticles in the polymer matrix. AC conductivity of the composites measured was on par with the power law of the disordered materials. Variation of dielectric constant and loss with the applied AC frequency can be attributed to Maxwell–Wagner polarization and Reslescu model.
