The Chelates of Ferrocenecarbaldehyde Bicyclo[2,2,l]hept-5-en-2-ylcarbonylhydrazone with Lanthanide

Abstract: A new organometallic ligand, ferrocenecarbaldehyde bicycle [2,2,1]hept-5-en-2-ylcarbonylhydraxone (Hbfh) and its lanthanide complexes [Ln(Hbfh)3Cl2]Cl . 4H2O 1 (Ln = Y3+, La3+, Pr3+, Sm3+, and Er3+) and [Ln(bfh)3]. 2H2O 2 (Ln = La3+ and Pr3+) have been synthesized and characterized using elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, and electronic spectra, molar conductivity, and TGA analyses. The ligand coordinates to the metal ion as a bidentate donor in the keto form or in the enolic form. The complexes coordinating in the enolic form are more thermally stable than in the keto form.
