Abstract: The electric conductivity of solid solutions NaAlF6-Al2O3-Al has been measured in the temperature range 773-1123 K. It has been found that the conductivity increases with the increasing concentration of dissolved aluminium. A substantial increase in the electronic conductivity component with temperature has been observed. On the basis of the dependence of the electronic conductivity on AlF3 concentration it has been concluded that the reaction of aluminium with cryolite results in the formation of metallic sodium which acts as an electron donor.
