Abstract: Cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), and zinc(II) complexes of tetraiodofluorescein (H2L) have been prepared and characterized by means of elemental analysis, molar conductivity, TG-DTA, IR, UV VIS, and 1H NMR spectra. The general formula for the complexes is ML· nH2O where L = tetraiodofluorescein (2,7-OH group deprotonated and the lactonic ring opened); M = Zn, Cu, Co, and Ni; n = 0, 4, 5, and 2. H2L and its complexes have been studied for their possible antitumour activity against Hep-2 pharynx cancer cells in vitro.
