Oxidation of triphenylarsine in the iron(III) thiocyanate complexes

Abstract: Triphenylarsine (AsPh3) is oxidized by dioxygen in acetonitrile at el­ evated temperature in the presence of iron(III) thiocyanate complexes to triphenylarsine oxide (OAsPh3). From the system Fe(NCS)3—AsPh3—02—acetonitrile, the triphenylarsine oxide complexes have been obtained with the composition Fe(NCS)3(OAsPh3)2 and Fe(NCS)3(OAsPh3)1.5. Their ste­ reochemistry is discussed on the basis of magnetic and spectral data.
