Aqueous polymerization of vinyl monomers in the presence of surfactants. 5. Copolymerization of acrylamide and acrylic-acid

Abstract: Aqueous copolymerization of acrylamide (AAm) with acrylic acid (AA) was studied at pH = 4.6 in the presence and/or in the absence of anionic emulsifier sodium dodecylphenoxybenzene disulfonate at 60 °C. It was found that the emulsifier does not affect either the kinetics of copolymerization or the composition of copolymer. The determined copolymerization parameters are rAAm = 0.25 and rAA = 0.90.
