Electroreduction of DL-glyceraldehyde and D-forms of its 2,3-di-O-methyl-propylidene and 2,3-O-isopropylidene derivatives

Abstract: Polarographie behaviour of DL-glyceraldehyde and its two given deriva­tives was investigated in buffered and nonbuffered solutions. Two Polaro­graphie reduction waves of the studied compounds were found to be depen­dent on pH of the medium, buffer concentration, reservoir height, and the temperature. Preparative electroreductions of the compounds were carried out under potentiostatic and pH-static conditions. Based upon the products of the preparative reductions performed at the limiting currents of the first and the second wave, mechanisms of the corresponding chemical and elec­trochemical processes were suggested.
