Electroreduction of DL-glyceraldehyde and D-forms of its 2,3-di-O-methyl-propylidene and 2,3-O-isopropylidene derivatives

Abstract: Polarographie behaviour of DL-glyceraldehyde and its two given derivatives was investigated in buffered and nonbuffered solutions. Two Polarographie reduction waves of the studied compounds were found to be dependent on pH of the medium, buffer concentration, reservoir height, and the
temperature. Preparative electroreductions of the compounds were carried
out under potentiostatic and pH-static conditions. Based upon the products
of the preparative reductions performed at the limiting currents of the first
and the second wave, mechanisms of the corresponding chemical and electrochemical processes were suggested.
