Ion-exchange equilibria in the system: strong acidic cation exchanger/metal ion/N-(methylphosphonic)iminodiacetic acid or glycine-N,N-bis(methylphosphonic) acid

Abstract: The influence of N-(methylphosphonic)iminodiacetic and glycine-N,N-bis(methylphosphonic) acids on the partition ratios of Fe(III), Cu(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), Zn, Ca, and Mg on the strong acid cation exchanger Dowex 50WX4 in the wide range of pH (pH = 1.5-10) was investigated. Both acids were effective complexing agents with respect to the studied ions. Complexes of different stability are formed with particular ions. The results indicate good possibilities of using both agents in ion-exchange chromatog. of metal ions.
