Angular overlap treatment of the electronic spectra of the chlorotitanium(III) complexes containing tetrahydrofuran and acetonitrile

Abstract: The electronic spectra of the distorted octahedral complexes TiCl₃(C₄H₈O)₃, TiCl₃(C₄H₈O)₂(CH₃CN), and TiCl₃(CH₃CN)₃ were interpreted with the aid of the angular overlap model using the transferability assumption for the single ligand parameters. The σ and π bonding parameters e_λ for the Ti(III)-ligand bonds were detd. The following 2-dimensional spectrochem. series for Ti(III) complexes was established: e_σ: Cl < C₄H₈O < CH₃CN and e_π: CH₃CN < C₄H₈O < Cl.
