Effect of metal catalysts on the oxidation of p-xylene and methyl p-toluate

Abstract: Monomeric and polymeric forms of metal phthalocyanines were studied as cocatalysts of the Co-catalyzed oxidn. of p-xylene and p-Me toluate at 160° and 0.7 MPa total pressure. Their influence depends upon the central atom, cryst. modification and coordinated ligands; however, it is different for Co and mixed Co-Mn catalysts. Metal phthalocyanines act as hydroperoxide decomposers and not as activators of the mol. O.
