Conversion of N-(4-nitrophenyl)glycosylamines of aldoses to aldohexuronic acids by nitrogen dioxide

Abstract: Oxidn. of the primary OH group of N-(4-nitrophenyl)glycosylamines of aldoses by NO2 followed by hydrolytic elimination of the aglycon gave uronic acids. This simple procedure for prepn. of aldohexuronic acids gave D-[U-14C]mannuronic, D-[U-14C]glucuronic, and D-[U-14C]galacturonic acid from the corresponding [U-14C]-labeled aldohexoses.
