Magnetic and spectroscopic properties of tetragonal C14H28N4Ni(NCS)2 macrocyclic complex

Abstract: meso-3,5,10,12-Tetramethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradeca-4,11-dienenickel(II) dithiocyanate was obtained from the macroamine and Ni(II) tetraammine diisothiocyanate. The visible spectrum and the magnetic moment (3.23 ± 0.01 μB) of the compd. indicate that in a solid state the Ni cation exists in a pseudo-octahedral triplet ground state, i.e. with the thiocyanate anions coordinated to the Ni(II) ion. The IR spectrum suggests Ni-NCS coordination of the thiocyanate group.
