Preparation of D-mannoheptulose

Abstract: D-Manno-heptulose was prepd. by a new method via isomerization D-glycero-D-galacto-heptose with dicyclohexylcarbodiimide; the yield of D-manno-heptulose was considerably higher (∼60%) than that (∼25%) obtained by methods used so far. A relation between the transformation course of D-glycero-D-galacto-heptose and concn. of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide was found. D-glycero-D-galacto-Heptose is more advantageous as a starting material than the epimeric aldoheptose, since the enolization rate of D-glycero-D-talo-heptose is slower under the same reaction conditions.
