Abstract: A method for indirect determination of the degree of oxidation of starch
dialdehyde has been elaborated. It is based on the reaction of 2,4-dinitrophenyl- or 4-nitrophenylhydrazine with aldehyde groups in starch dialdehyde followed by the iodometric determination of the excess of the reagent
using biamperometric indication. The formed hydrazones present in the
analyzed mixture do not interfere with the determination.
The advantage of the newly developed method lies in its simplicity, and its
results are virtually identical with those obtained by means of the standard
hydroxylamine method.
