Magnetochemical, electronic spectral, and crystal chemical characterization of thermal decomposition of trichlorotris(tetrahydrofuran)titanium(III)

Abstract:  The magnetic properties of complex TiCl3•3C4H8O (I) as well as the products of its thermal decomposition TiCI3•2C4H8O (II) and TiCl3•C4H8O (HI) in the temperature range 77—300 К were studied using the Gouy method. The obtained magnetochemical data in the cases (I) and (II) are consistent with their assumed monomelic structure which, for the complex (I) was confirmed by crystal structure determination. In the case (III) the formation of polymeric species was confirmed. Cryomagnetic data are com­pleted by the data of diffuse reflectance spectra and finally a scheme for thermal decomposition of TiCl3 • 3C4H8O is proposed.
