Abstract: Redox changes occurring in the systems contg. complex species [CuCl3(Ac2O)]- and [CuBr3(Ac2O)]- were investigated. The course of the redox changes was influenced particularly by mol. O. The halocopper(I) complex resulting from the spontaneous redox reaction is stable in an inert atm., but in the presence of O it undergoes reoxidn. to halocuprate(II). The decrease of halides after complete redn. of Cu(II) to Cu(I) was in agreement with the proposed equation of the reaction: 2CuX3- + CH3COOCOCH3 → 2CuX2- + CH3COOCOCH2XZ + HX. The redox changes proceed much more slowly in AcOH soln. than in Ac2O soln.
