Study of the diffusion process in the dissolution of poly(vinylidene chloride) in streaming organic solvents

Abstract:  The kinetics of dissolution of powdered poly(vinylidene chloride) prepared by emulsion polymerization under optimum reaction conditions have been investigated. The values of the mean integral diffusion coefficient of the process of dissolution of the solid particles of poly(vinylidene chloride) in cyclohexanone, dioxan, o-dichlorobenzene, tetrahydrofuran, and tetrachloroethane found on the basis of the calculated rates of dissolution and the measured width of swollen surface layer are presented.
