Analytical use of 4-(4'-dimethylamino)phenyl-1-phenylthiosemicarbazide

Abstract: A new analytical reagent giving colour reactions with the ions Cu(II), Au(III), Hg(II), Pt(IV), and Pd(II) was synthesized from dimethylaminophenylisothiocyanate and phenylhydrazone. By investigating the properties of the reagent it has been found that during the formation of chelates its protonized or dissociated form appears in dependence on the pH. The corresponding pK values have been determined for these forms. For the studied reactions pD and e values have been determined.
