Viscosity of the slag systems iron-oxygen-silica-X (X = calcium oxide or magnesium oxide)

Abstract: Viscosity values are given for the synthetic slag systems Fe-O-SiO2-X(X=CaO,MgO) in the compn. range corresponding to that of slags from Cu reverberatory furnace and converter. The results of viscosity measurements in slags from the new continuous process of Cu prodn., KONTI, are presented. The influence of temp. and of the content of Fe2O3, CaO, and MgO on the viscosity of the slag systems was studied. A description of the rotary viscometer is given. The results are discussed with respect to the ionic theory of molten slags and the deposition of the solid phase due to a decrease of temp., or to a change in the compn.
