Kinetics of the redox reaction of the uranium(III) ions with hydrazoic acid

Abstract: The kinetics and mechanism of the redox reaction of the U(111) ions with hydrazoic acid was studied. The rate equation is -d|U(III)|/dt = k|U(III)||HN3|. The activation parameters in the 0.4 M HCl are: ΔH* = 43.1 KJ mol-1 and ΔS* = -142.3 J mol-1 K-1. The probable reaction mechanism and the influence of the nature of the solvent in binary solvent mixts. (water-methanol, water-ethanol, water-isopropyl alc.) are discussed.
