Abstract: The importance of various types of adsorption centers on faujasite-type zeolite was studied with model adsorbates. The degree of heterogeneity of the surface was modified by changing tne no. of cations in the Y zeolite with the general formula NaxH1-xY. This was done by replacing Na by NH4 followed by decompn. Adsorbates capable of specific interactions (CO, C2H4) prefer cationic centers, esp. cations in large cavities. Nonspecifically sorbed mols. (C1-C3 satd. hydrocarbons) interact with the zeolite skeleton during adsorption. Their heats of adsorption are not affected by the no. of cations. Active centers formed by substitution of cations by protons are energetically less pronounced.
