Chelating agents derived from cysteine. Synthesis, dissociation constants and complexes with silver(I)

Abstract: Compounds of the type of alkanedithio-bis(2-aminopropane) acids were
prepared by the reaction of dihalogenoalkane (namely dibromomethane, 1,2-dibromoethane, 1,3-dibromopropane, 1,4-dibromobutane, and 1,3-dichloro-2-propanol) with L-cysteine. Values of рKа were determined and the complex
formation with Ag(I) was followed from the potentiometrical neutralization
curves (I = 0.10 M, KNO3, 20°C). Complexes with the ratio M : L = 1 1
and hydrogeno complexes are formed. The effect of lengthening of the carbon
chain as well as the presence of covalently bonded sulfur was followed.
