Iodine number determination by combination nomogram and results of analysis of fatty acids by gas chromatography

Abstract:  The determination of the iodine number of trigliceridic fats and oils or other lipids using the results obtained by the determination of unsaturated fatty acids by gas chromatography and by subsequent reading from a nomogram is presented. The nomogram constructed for this purpose enabled the determination of the iodine number with the accuracy of 0.5 unit. The rate and the accuracy of the iodine number determination corresponds to the accuracy of chromatographic analysis of the mixture of fatty acids when using a microamount of the investigated sample.
