Abstract: The reaction of Ph3P and Ph3AS with copper(II) chloride in acetone
yields complexes with the molar ratio of Ph3P : Cu(II) = 1 : 1 and Ph3AS : Cu(II) = 3 : 1 , respectively, that undergo redox processes and decomposition.
Ph3Sb immediately reduces CuCI2 t o give CuCl and Рb3SbCl2. The rate
of the Cu(II) reduction found by means of spectrophotometry decreases
in the order Ph3Sb> Ph3P > Ph3As. The unexpected position of PhsSb
in this order is explained by a different reaction mechanism; t h e influence
of dative л bonds between Ph3E (E = P, As, Sb) and Cu(II) on t h e course
of the redox processes t h a t the complexes formed undergo, is investigated.
