Abstract: The dehydration of K2Zn2V10O28.16H2O, K2Cd2V10O28.14H2O, K4CdV10O28.10H2O and CsCdV10O28.11H2O was studied by thermogravimetry and DTA and the ir spectra and x-ray diffraction patterns of the products were compared with those of the starting materials. The release of the structural H2O in dehydration produces a labile crystal structure formed by a voluminous anion and relatively small cations. Further heating of the anhyd. decavanadates produces a more stable lattice with a less compact comfiguration of the decavanadate anion. The structure of this newly produced anion is dependent upon the size and polarization properties of the cations.
