New complexanes. XXVII. Synthesis of ethylenediamine-N,N'-dimalonic and ethylenediamine-N,N'-2,2-diglutaric acids and potentiometric estimation of their complexes with alkaline earth metal ions

Abstract: The synthesis of two new complexanes of the type of ethylenediamine-N,N'-bisialkanedicarboxylic) acids, namely ethylenediamine-N,N'-dimalonic and ethylenediamine-N,N'-(2,2'-diglutaric) acids, is described. From the Potentiometrie neutralization curves their pK_a values and stability constants of chelates of the type ML^{2 -} and MHL^- with Ca(II), Sr(II), Ba(II), and Mg(II) ions for the ionic strength / = 0.10 and t = 20°C were determined. The acid-base and chelate-forming properties of these reagents containing secondary — NH— groups in the molecule with respect to the complexanes of similar structure were compared.
