Abstract: The effect of the pH and vanadium concentration on t h e character of the absorption spectra of aqueous vanadate(V) solutions in basic media was studied at 20°C and a t the ionic strength of  μ= 1.0. The bands found at 36 900, 41 600, and 46 500 cm^-1 make it possible to differentiate the monomeric from the polymeric forms of vanadate(V) ions in the solution.
