Thermal behavior of peroxydiphosphates. III. Lithium peroxydiphosphate and its hydrates

Abstract: The reaction of a satd. aq. soln. of LiClO4.3H2O with K4P2O8 yields pure Li4P2O8.4H2O. On heating to 140°, DTA and thermogravimetric anal. indicate that 3.5 moles of H2O are released, forming Li4P2O8.1/2H2O which gives off active O2 in an exothermic reaction at 270°, yielding Li4P2O7.1/2H2O. The decompn. to the anhyd. Li4P2O7 is complete at about 500°. The thermal behavior of Li4P2O8.4H2O is therefore similar to that of Na4P2O8.6H2O.
