Isothiocyanates. XXXVII. New method of determination of natural and synthetic isothiocyanates and glucosinolates

Abstract: A spectrometric method was developed for detg. isothiocyanates (ITC). It was based on the reaction of ITC with thioglycolic acid by which they are quant. converted into N-substituted thiocarbamoylmercaptoacetates or 3-substituted rhodanines having characteristic uv absorption max. Glucosinolates in plant tissues may thus be detd. after their extn. and enzymic hydrolysis by detg. the liberated ITC. A microsynthesis, paper and thin-layer chromatog. sepn. methods,detection methods, and some phys.-chem. properties of 3-substituted rhodanines are also described.
