Changes of ESR Spectrum of Poly(methyl methacrylate) during Decay of Free Radicals at High Pressures

Abstract: Decay was slowed and the intensity of the 4 and 6 lines in the ESR spectrum increased in the free radical decay of irradiated poly(methyl methacrylate)   at high pressure. Changes in the ESR spectrum during decay at 100-80.deg. under 5000 and 10,000 atm resulted from decay of the end radicals and displacement of the unpaired electron to new radicals which were more stable under high pressure than at 1 atm giving rise to a concn. build up and increased line intensity. The changes proved the involvement of more than 1 radical species in the decay.
