New complexanes. XXVI. Complex-forming properties of ethylenediamine-N,N'-2,2'-bis(3-hydroxypropionic)acid and ethylenediamine-N,N'-2,2'-bis(3-hydroxybutyric)acid

Abstract:  Two new reagents of the group of diamino complexanes containing two carboxylic and alcoholic functional groups were prepared. It was ethylenediamine-N,^ N'-2,2'-di-(3-hydroxypropane) acid and ethylenediamine-N,N'/-2,2'-di-(3-hydroxy butane) acid. The acid-base and complex-forming properties of these reagents were investigated with respect to the cations of alkaline earth metals and some ions of heavy metals, namely Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Pb(II), Cd(II), Zn(II), and Fe(III). These reagents always form electroneutral complexes of the composition M : L = 1:1 while the participation of alcoholic functional groups in chelation involving a simultaneous splitting-off of protons was not proved. The Potentiometrie and spectrophotometry methods were used for the estimation of the stability constants. The charge of complexes was determined by paper electrophoresis.
