Abstract: EPR, NMR, and elec. cond. measurements indicated an electron transfer from tri-tert-butylphenoxy radicals to Cu(II) ions. During the titrn. of an ethanolic cupric chloride soln. with a benzene soln. of the free radical, the intensity of the EPR signal for the unpaired 3d9 electron in the Cu(II) ions decreased by elimination of O and, after reaching equil., the free radical signal (g = 2.006) was obsd. The direct cond. was simultaneously measured, and went through a max. In deuterated solvents at a 1.1 free radical-CuCl2 ratio, the NMR line broadening, caused by the paramagnetic properties of both components, was eliminated, and a highly resolved spectrum was obtained.
