Abstract: In benzoyl peroxide initiated polymerization of methyl methacrylate the inhibition effects of tetraphenylhydrazine were examined at 60°C. Tetraphenylhydrazine was found to accelerate the decomposition of benzoyl peroxide in the polymerization process and to inhibit the growth reaction of polymerization. No proportionality between the inhibition periods and concentration of the initiator was obs3rved. It is assumed that even the decomposition products of tetraphenylhydrazine accelerate decomposition of the benzoyl peroxide and are involved in the polymerization transfer reactions.
